GLOBAL & U.S. MISSIONS
If you’ve been around ERBC for any length of time you know that a strong commitment to outreach, both globally and locally is part of our DNA. This year’s annual Special Offering will enable us to continue to support missionaries around the world, send mini-mission teams overseas and partner with ministries that are feeding the hungry, bringing water to the thirsty while sharing the good news of Jesus Christ. Thanks to your generosity in giving this past year, phase one of the Tecate Mexico Orphanage Solar Project has been completed and is now connected to the grid producing electricity for the orphanage.
This summer ERBC is planning to send a mission team to Tecate to work alongside our missionary Tim Nash. Tim’s first exposure to missions came through short-term projects in Mexico, led by his youth pastor, trips that included building homes and evangelizing children. Education and experience have prepared Tim for his future ministry in Mexico and our hope is that someone from ERBC on this year’s mini-mission team might follow Tim’s example.
For over thirty years ERBC has been supporting missions outreach to the Philippines. This coming year we want to support a new missionary family, Tim & Bethany Spears. They will be will assisting our missionaries Paul & Margie Varberg in pastoral training at Tacloban Bible Community and establishing a church planting institute to train and send church planters to reach the Waray. The Waray have a population of 2.6 million people without any strong bible college and seminary.
SUPPORTING FOSTER FAMILIES
Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.” -Matthew 19:14
There are currently over 500,000 children in foster care across our country. Most face unimaginable rejection, neglect, abuse and abandonment. The Bible tells us that “Pure and genuine religion in the sight of God means caring for orphans and widows in their distress” (James 1:27). While we can’t do everything to solve this enormous problem, that shouldn’t stop us from doing something. This coming year ERBC will be launching an initiative to provide a helping hand to children in foster care and the families who are helping them. That initiative will begin with our hosting a Foster, Adoption, and Orphan Care summit at ERBC.
People don’t care what we know until they know that we care. Servant evangelism is doing acts of kindness for anyone and everyone. The Bible tells us “As we have opportunity, let us do good to all people” (Galatians 6:10). An example of servant evangelism could be something as simple as handing out free water bottles on a hot day or taking bags of food to needy families at Christmastime. The possibilities are endless, but the common denominator is that nothing is asked for in return. One of the motivations behind this type evangelism is that the Bible tells us that God’s kindness leads people to repentance (Romans 2:4). Through this offering we will be able to expose non-Christians to Christians showing God’s love in unmistakable and non-threatening ways.
HELPING THE POOR IN OUR CITY & AROUND THE WORLD
We are a church that serves “the least of these.” Through our STEPPING OUT IN FAITH Special Offering we have an opportunity to help those in greatest need in our city (both spiritually and physically). We will continue our outreach to the hungry and homeless and partner with organizations like World Impact, Children’s Hunger Fund, and Operation Christmas Child to make a difference in the lives of the less fortunate.
REACHING THE NEXT GENERATION
We’re a church that loves to invest in children and families. One way we do this is through Kids Night In, Parents Night Out. Six times a year we give parents a date kit so that they can enjoy an evening out while their kids are experiencing a Vacation Bible School environment. We’re committed to helping parents strengthen their marriage and work on their relationship with one another.
