It’s okay to grieve.
“Jesus wept” (John 11:34).
John 11:33-35 tells us that, “Jesus wept” when he reached the tomb where his dear friend Lazarus’ body lay. Jesus wept. But why did Jesus weep when in the next few moments he would raise Lazarus from the dead?
Jesus —who was fully human and fully God— was present in the grief around the death of his friend. Jesus grieved.
When Mary reached the place where Jesus was and saw him, she fell at his feet and said, “Lord, if you had been here, my brother would not have died.”
When Jesus saw her weeping, and the Jews who had come along with her also weeping, he was deeply moved in spirit and troubled. “Where have you laid him?” he asked.
“Come and see, Lord,” they replied.
Jesus wept.
(John 11: 32-35 NIV)
Grief is a very real and very powerful emotion that occurs when we experience great loss.
It’s okay to grieve. In fact, it’s a completely normal to grieve when we experience a great loss.
Our hearts hurt when we lose someone or something we care about deeply.
When a loved one passes, a relationship fails, or even when we move to a new city or state, we can experience a deep and profound grief. We may grieve over the loss of a way of life, over heartbreak, over unrealized dreams, and so much more. There’s really no limit to what we may grieve.
One thing is for sure…
when it comes to grief, the pain is real…
and it is often difficult to carry.
If you are in a state of grief,
we want you to know that you’re not alone.
You are not alone, and we care.
We intermittently host an Adult Grief Support Group here at Eagle Rock Baptist Church where adults can share their grief in an open and confidential group. This group is offered to help participants share their pain and loss with others without worry of judgement or being “fixed.” It is our hope that through sharing participants may find strength to continue on in their “new normal.”
If you would like to participate in our upcoming Adult Grief Support Group, please let us know by filling out the form below. This is open to anyone who is interested. You do not have to be Christian or attend Eagle Rock Baptist Church to participate.
An old proverbs states,
“Joy shared is multiplied;
grief shared is divided.”
As we share our sorrows with each other, and allow the community to carry our burdens with us, they miraculously become lighter.
It is never too late to make the choice to face your grief with the help of others, especially at ERBC.
