You’re never more like Jesus than when you are giving and when you are serving! That’s why serving is a core value at ERBC!
Serving is not just something you do; as followers of Christ, we are called to be servants!
“The greatest among you must be a servant!” – Matthew 23:11.
Jesus demonstrated this very scripture in his action as he washed the feet of his disciples (John 13:14–17), as he healed the sick (Matthew 4:23) and fed the poor (Luke 9:10-17), and even as he died for us upon the cross (John 19:28-30). These are just a few examples of the constant servant leadership that Jesus exemplified throughout his life.
Moreover, Jesus said the most important commandment is to “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself” (Matthew 22:36-40). These two commandments are intertwined. To love God fully, we must indeed love our neighbor.
In Matthew 25, Jesus explains further: “Come, you who are blessed by my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you clothed me, I was sick and you visited me, I was in prison and you came to me.’ Then the righteous will answer him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you drink? And when did we see you a stranger and welcome you, or naked and clothe you? And when did we see you sick or in prison and visit you?’ And the King will answer them, ‘Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.’”
