Two Fresh Ways to Approach the Bible
Approach #1
See the Bible as One Big Story
- The Bible isn’t a random pile of disconnected books — it’s one connected story, and it all points to Jesus.
- When you start seeing the whole picture, you begin to catch what God has been up to from the very beginning.
Approach #2
Read on Purpose
- Come to the Bible expecting to meet God, not just check a box. Ask questions that take you deeper, like:
- Who was this originally written to?
- What’s the main thing God is saying here?
- What does this have to do with my life right now?
Lesson
Most of us tend to read the Bible in little pieces — a verse here, a story there — like it’s a collection of separate, unrelated chapters. But the Bible is way more than a stack of standalone stories. From Genesis all the way to Revelation, it’s telling one unified story, and that story leads straight to Jesus.
When you start reading it that way, everything changes. Instead of getting stuck on one isolated passage, you begin to see how the pieces connect — how the Old Testament sets things up and the New Testament pays them off, how it all fits into God’s rescue plan for people like you and me. Suddenly the Bible isn’t a maze. It’s a masterpiece.
The second shift is just as big: come to the Bible on purpose. We’re not reading to win a trivia night — we’re reading to be changed. So when you open it up, slow down and ask a few questions. Who wrote this, and who were they writing to? What’s the main message here? How does this point me to Jesus, and what does it mean for my life today? Those questions move you past skimming the surface and into actually hearing from God.
