In Your Anger

In Your Anger
Thursday August 13, 2020

Hey church family. Today I want to talk to you about ANGER. Anger is something that’s really important for us to learn to handle because there is so much of it around us right now. There is anger in our politicians. There is anger online. There even may be anger in your quarantined household.

Proverbs 29:11 tells us, “Fools vent their anger, but the wise quietly hold it back.” So, based on that description, are you a fool or are you wise? How do you handle anger? Ephesians 4:26 says, “If you become angry, do not let your anger lead you into sin” (Ephesians 4:26a GNT).

Three things I can take from that verse:

  • Anger is not sin. As the verse tells us, it can lead you into sin, but in and of itself, it’s not sin. Which is why Paul doesn’t tell us “Don’t be angry.” Instead he says “Don’t let your anger lead you into sin.” Anger is normal. There are some things we should be angry about. Anger is not sin.

But something else to remember is...

  • Anger is no excuse for sin. In our anger, we shouldn’t say mean things, cruel things, thoughtless things or do things that hurt people. Why? Because in your anger, you’re not allowed to sin.

A third things to remember is ….

  • When you don’t deal with anger it gets worse. It will hurt you and it will hurt others. When you suppress anger without expressing it in proper ways, it’s like taking a soft drink bottle and shaking it up. One day it’s going to pop! Doctors tell us a number of physical ailments are often brought on by suppressed anger.

So what should we do with our anger? Ephesians 4:26 continues and it tells us, "Don’t let the sun go down while you are still angry." If you’re angry, deal with it quickly and carefully. Who are you angry with? Confess it. Tell God — and tell whoever you’re angry with — And then lot God bring healing to your anger. I’ll be praying for you. Please keep praying for me.
